During the last two years, a number of entities have contributed to defining research foundations, training requirements, and instructional strategies for this project. Sponsored by the NAVAIR Human Performance Center (HPC), the current effort is being performed by the Training Technology Lab (TTL) of Novonics Corporation.

NAVAIR Human Performance Center (HPC)

The mission of the Human Performance Center (HPC) is to optimize Naval Warfighting Performance by applying the Human Performance Systems Model and the Science of Learning to all facets of naval operations. The HPC originated the critical thinking training effort to explore how learning game simulations can be employed in a distance learning environment as part of the Revolution in Training (RIT) initiative. Located in Orlando, FL, the HPC has provided both administrative and technical guidance for this effort and served as sponsor for the game-based prototype.

Center for Naval Leadership (CNL)

Serving as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), the Center for Naval Leadership (CNL) has done extensive work to leverage existing research in critical thinking, leadership, science of learning, and simulation and game development to be applied towards developing a prototype and a training methodology that can eventually serve the Navy Total Force.

Novonics Training Technology Lab

Located at Novonics Corporation’s Orlando office, the Training Technology Lab (TTL) is a state-of-the-art training development facility designed to function as a collaborative work environment for instructional designers, digital media specialists, and software engineers. Novonics TTL has recently completed the development of the critical thinking training prototype using advanced gaming technology.
