This November, Novonics Corporation and Defense Acquisition University (DAU) were named joint
recipients of a 2010 Brandon Hall Research Excellence in Learning Award in the Best Use of
Virtual Worlds for Learning category. Novonics TTL submitted the Intact Team Training (ITT)
Simulation for DAU. The use of virtual micro-worlds was integral to meeting the training and
business needs of the ITT simulation for DAU. Entries were judged on the following criteria:
- Fit to the Needs: How well does a virtual world fit the learning needs and situation?
- Design of the Virtual World Experience: How well does this use of a virtual world support
the learning objectives?
- Measurable Benefits: How well does this use of a virtual world for learning produce measurable
benefits and outcomes?
- Overall: Overall, how effective is this use of a virtual world for learning?
The Brandon Hall Excellence in Learning Awards are presented annually by Brandon Hall Research,
one of the leading research firms in training and development. Now in its sixteenth year,
the Awards program showcases exceptional work in the use of learning technology.

Entries were submitted in the categories of Best Custom Content, Best Innovation in Learning
Technology, Best Learning Game, Best Learning Team, Best Results of a Learning Program, Best
Use of Blended Learning, Best Use of Games for Learning, Best Use of Mobile Learning, Best
Use of Video for Learning, Best Use of Virtual Worlds for Learning, Best Use of Web 2.0 Tools
for Learning and Best Integration of Learning and Talent Management. A total of 214 entries
were originally submitted and evaluated by a panel of veteran, independent senior judges.
